We made it! It was SO neat to be able to make it to the Laura Ingalls Wilder homestead in Independence, Kansas. We call ourselves the Adventure Girls but I was seriously concerned with such a long drive for us but we made it and it was worth it. The site has a replica of the log home that pa build (It was having to be rebuilt from damage but since our visit, it has been completed.), the well that pa dug, a school & post office from the time period the Ingalls lived here. Coming here during the festival made it even neater. We saw kids dressed as Laura and Mary and even one little boy dressed as pa. It was too cute! We also got to meet one of the twins that played Baby Grace on the tv show, Wendi Lee. She was so super sweet and nice to talk to!
Owner of the property dressed up as "Mr. Edwards".
Post office
One room schoolhouse
Kids on their way to school.
The actual well that pa dug. This is one of the things historians used to locate the historical homestead.
This quilt pattern was on a hope chest that Almanzo gave to Laura.
Mr. Edwards was based on the real life person, Edmund Mason. I sure did love Mr. Edwards! I can see why Laura did too!
Adventure Girls meeting Wendi Lee
Wendi signing autographs for us.
Jason Wilder, related to Almanzo.
In the middle in blue is Laura Ingalls! Yes, she really is named that but she is named after her relative...the same relative that Laura Ingalls Wilder from the book is named after. Very cool!
Costume contest. The kids were all so cute!
Judging...the kids not only had to look the part but they had to be able to answer questions from the book. Good thing we listened to all of the books over again on our road trip or we may have forgotten some of the answers.
Mr. Mason's grave...the real life Mr. Edwards. RIP, Mr. Mason!
Do you think Laura even ran and played in this field?
My prairie girl!
