July 22 - 23, 2018
Earlier this summer we stayed in a covered wagon. We both love to camp but in the covered wagon, it was different. It added a neat flare to the whole camping thing. It got me to thinking...it would be a lot of fun to have a great end of summer adventure to surprise the little with unusual places to stay and have some great adventures. So to Google I went and found that there are actually a lot of super cool places to "glamp". For this end of summer hoorah, I booked three different places. I think this just may be our thing. We could find a couple of places to glamp each year.
First up, Sandy River Outdoor Adventures "Shining Star Tipi"! We actually came ziplining here last year but didn't see the tipis since only one had been built at that time. WOW! They are new and just awesome! The pictures online just don't even do even do it justice. From the outside, the field of tipis looks really cool but it only whets the appetite. Open the door and ohmigosh! It is just BEYOND gorgeous! Candice, the owner, has managed to anticipate your every need! You could seriously just arrive with your clothes and basic food and be good to go. You don't even have to bother with the spices, coffee, tea, toiletries, etc. It is here! The whole ambience is just amazing and relaxing. You could be totally happy just staying in the tipi for days! However, there are tons of things to do if you want to venture out. Like I mentioned before, we did the adventure course last year so we opted to try something else this year. We had kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, shopping, hiking, swimming and biking (just to name a few) to choose from. We opted for biking. Sandy River has their own bike shop in Farmville (just a few miles from the tipi). When we arrived at the bike shop we met Candice's mom. She is just as sweet as Candice is! She was super helpful and got us all set up. We rented a tandem bike and took off for an adventure. At the end of the night we returned to the tipi to find that Candice had restocked our firewood so we got our dinner and s'mores grilled.
I do believe that I could stay in this tipi forever! We will have to return to stay in another one of the tipis with the rest of the family!
