We love NYC!

June 26, 2018

Day 2 of NYC...we got a much earlier start today and it was amAzing! We headed straight for the 9/11 Memorial. No one was there and it was so quiet and peaceful in order to pay our respects. It is  hard to believe that there is such evil in this world to hurt so many innocent people. The Adventure Girls also completed a goal. We have now paid our respects at all three of the 9/11 Memorials. We did the Pentagon and Shanksville last year and now the World Trade Centers this year. All are so tastefully done and with such meaning. Of all three of them, it is my opinion that Shanksville, PA really drives home the humanity of that day. The phone receivers that you pick up and listen to the messages of those on the plane were just so saddenly. The heroes on the plane were so strong for their loved ones and you feel so much raw emotion listening to them. The 9/11 Memorial at NYC was very moving as well. The waterfalls where the towers once stood with the names of those that lost their lives that day is incredibly calming and beautiful. We arrived a little early to do the 9/11 Museum so we headed over to the 1 World Trade Center and took in the sights. Once we finished we headed over and did the museum. So touching and moving. The people that worked there were often heard asking, "What is your story?" Everyone  seemed open to sharing where they were on 9/11 and how they felt. It was kind of cathartic to share and get it out. I don't think anyone will forget that awful day!

After leaving the memorial sight we headed over to the Staten Island Ferry and cruised by the Statue of Liberty, enjoyed an ice cream, music and a lovely ride relaxing on the way back.

We had a great time playing the rest of the day. We debated a Broadway show but the little just wasn't feeling it so we were walking along after visiting Trump Tower going to Central Park and ran into a pedicab driver. He was working a hard sale and when I looked at the cost, I knew it couldn't happen. However, he really worked with us and cut the cost dramatically. Perhaps he does it for all and perhaps he doesn't. Whatever the case may be, he was awesome! We took an hour long ride with Abbas pointing out all of the different landmarks and to make it even better...he posed us in different locations and took the pictures for us. We loved him!

After our ride in Central Park the little was beyond happy! It was shopping time for her. She had been waiting and saving her money from the time we decided to go to NYC for this moment. She was super cute and I was super happy she had her own money....haha!

What can I say about the last 2 days but awesome! Great memories were made!

Such great views from above.

The tablets are super cool as you can point them out and landmarks will pop up. You can click on them and it will tell you all about the landmark. Really neat to have the information at your fingertips.

Don't fall!

Road trip! Almost there!

Honoring the lives of those who were lost is at the heart of our mission. Occupying eight of the 16 acres at the World Trade Center, the Memorial is a tribute to the past and a place of hope for the future.

Th Survivor Tree...amazing that it made it and that they rescued it!

A Callery pear tree became known as the "Survivor Tree" after enduring the September 11, 2001 terror attacks at the World Trade Center. In October 2001, the tree was discovered at Ground Zero severely damaged, with snapped roots and burned and broken branches. The tree was removed from the rubble and placed in the care of the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation. After its recovery and rehabilitation, the tree was returned to the Memorial in 2010. New, smooth limbs extended from the gnarled stumps, creating a visible demarcation between the tree’s past and present. Today, the tree stands as a living reminder of resilience, survival and rebirth.

Before....

....after...so incredibly sad! Never forget!

Just so sad!

We were able to leave a message and they pop up on the walls of the memorial later. Never forget!

I will never forget the day after the attack...the US united and the level of patriotism felt by all was heartwarming. We  were all Americans! Out of a bad thing...something great came.

Cruising along

Trump Tower where the Trumps live in NYC

The little of course had to have her Starbucks. Surprised it isn't called Trumpbucks here :)

Abbas was the BEST pedicab driver ever! We loved our hour long trip through Central Park. I wish we could have done it all day long!

If you are ever in NYC and want to see Central Park, Call Abbas! He is absolutely awesome! He was fun, sweet and even took our pictures at the different landmarks. We couldn't have asked for a better driver.

So sweet seeing this couple in the park.

The Enchanted Fountain

Central Park is just so pretty amongst all of the chaos in the city.

The Adventure Girls love the tv show Friends and really enjoyed playing at the fountain from the opening of the show.

Abbas had us do this and we actually ended up liking the pic he took. I can't say enough about what an awesome driver he was. He took Ben Affleck on a 3 hour ride about a week before us and I felt like he treated us just the same as a movie star. So sweet!
